how to TUNE YOUR KALIMBA
Despite all care, it can happen with every Kalimba that the notes are slightly out of tune...
Wah-Wah Kalimbas
The Meinl Sonic Energy Wah-Wah Kalimba is a great-sounding melodic instrument with unique characteristics, not only in sound but also in design. Enjoy your beautiful melodies with 17 notes on the scale of C Major. The material is high-quality acacia wood.
This Kalimba has a body-oriented soundhole so you can create a great wah-wah effect while playing by simply bouncing the Kalimba body on and off your belly which creatively moves the sound.
The Kalimba comes with a case so you can protect it from scratches and other damage. To remove stains from your Kalimba and to keep it safe afterward, a microfiber cloth and a linen bag are also included. Besides that, we have added a tuning hammer in case you want to retune your Kalimba.
The Kalimba originally comes from Africa. It is a centuries-old instrument, also known as "Mbira" and "Sansa" or simply "thumb piano". There are metal reeds placed on a wooden resonance box, which are plucked with the thumbs to produce a metallically fine sound.

The body
The body of these instruments, either solid or hollow, amplifies the sounds created by the tongues.
Some of our kalimbas feature a sound hole, which helps, similar to the hole of an acoustic guitar, spreading the tone naturally.
Solid kalimbas meanwhile are known for their sturdy, compact design and dense warm sound.
Wah-wah Kalimbas add a new dimension to the sound by letting the player vary the frequency focus put out by the instrument and thus creating different sounds similar to a wah-pedal for guitars.
The smooth edges and body surface provide a pleasant feel and sleek appearance, particularly when combined with the detailed engraving on our sound hole kalimbas.
Expert craftsmanship
These kalimbas are crafted with exceptional care using top grade tone woods including maple/acacia blend, mahogany, acacia and maple.
The wood is finished with a stain that brings out the natural grain for a refined and high-end appearance.
We use solid, chrome plated steel for the tines that delivers a pure and resonant sound. These tines are pre-tuned to C Major scale.
